Attention to Detail

CHRISTmas is fast approaching & the buzz & hype of it all have invaded the streets. it is a GREAT season...lots of JOY & HAPPINESS. there is also a lot of focus on times passed & times ahead. looking back can sometimes be a TIME of mixed emotions but TIME is all we have to get to the next place on this JOURNEY. with all that in mind, my post today is a reminder of what this TIME of the year really means...for ME.

much like many others...i've begun doing inventory on what i would like to tweek in 2012. some things are big while others are small. yet all are equally important & are part of my growth process. and boy have i had some growing pains.

throughout the past few years & concretely the past 2 years, my relationship with God has been renewed & restored. i've always been a stickler for ATTENTION TO DETAIL in my relationships...ANY relationship...friendships or otherwise. and i try to keep the ATTENTION TO DETAIL myself, with others. i feel that ATTENTION TO DETAIL always brings a smile to someone's face (mines included)& it let's them know you are thinking of them. so to, is my renewed relationship with God. i've learned to pay ATTENTION to the moments in my life where He tells me "i love you & i am thinking about you". some days that may come in the form of a rainbow, others in the form of a dove flying by & other's by having a friend reach out.

in this new age of technology & "busyness"...i think we...myself included...often use the world of social networking as a form of keeping in touch with people. while there is nothing wrong with that...i do think that A LOT gets lost in translation (i.e. ATTENTION TO DETAIL). i also think it takes away from the moments of getting to know people face to face.

so one of my goals for the new year is to make an effort to call people more often & whenever possible spend TIME with them. seeing people is always hard but there is so much warmth in hearing a person's voice which can't possibly be transmitted on ANY social network, nor text, nor email. as a therapist...hearing a person's voice tells a lot more. in attempting to reach this goal i decided to temporarily deactivate my Facebook account. this will allow me the opportunity to reach out more & vice versa...i hope!

i was sad in doing this as i knew i would miss my friends but understood that relationships built go beyond facebook & therefore my friends...would also have the ATTENTION TO DETAIL with me in reaching out in other forms. the last few months have brought me GREAT JOY as i've forged NEW relationships. the "old" ones continue to GROW STRONG & SOLID. i'm excited about the coming year hoping these relationships continue to grow. i am HAPPY! it took TIME but steadily i've gotten to a point where my soul smiles.

my temporary disconnect also had a far larger purpose. in keeping with the season...we should be in a waiting posture...focused on what is important...OUR SAVIOR! His arrival should be the focus of our attention & energies. making sure we are READY for HIM! the NOISE of the world sometimes impedes us from hearing HIS voice because we become so busy with the VOICE of the world. and suddenly messages get mixed & muffled & we lose sight of what is important...HIM!

it has been a trying 2 years for me but through it all my soul was at PEACE...He became my confidant, my voice of reason, my sounding board & my companion...at all times. i learned to be still in my soul. and i thought this is a great TIME to be still, on the inside. i DON'T want to miss a DETAIL! so i temporarily deactivated my account to rekindle that spark. rekindling is NECESSARY in ALL relationships...the FLAME requires WORK to be KEPT on!

i centered myself. this morning i got an ATTENTION TO DETAIL...this TIME in the form of a daily reflection which read: "The Church asks us to understand that Christ, who came once in the flesh, is prepared to come again. When we remove all obstacles to His presence He will come, at any hour and moment, to dwell spiritually in our hearts, bringing with Him the riches of His grace. - Saint Charles Borromeo (1538-1584)

that was my Godwink that i was on the right path. then i heard a song (on a non CHRISTian or non CHRISTmas station) which also was another Godwink...here are the lyrics...it's a song by Matthew West...

"The Heart Of Christmas"

I’m gonna make a wish this Christmas
I’m gonna say a little prayer
I’m gonna stop here for a moment
Before the moment disappears

The world’s in a hurry this December
City streets and shopping malls
I wish we could slow down and remember
The meaning of it all

Wherever you are, no matter how far
Come back to the heart, the heart of Christmas
Live while you can, cherish the moment
The ones that you love, make sure they know it
Don’t miss it, the heart of Christmas

Let’s make it feel the way it used to
Let’s find that wonder of a child
You can see the magic all around you
Come on, and open up your eyes

You can find it in the warm embrace of your family
Or calling up a long lost friend
You can even find it in the eyes of stranger
When you reach out a helping hand

Wherever you are, no matter how far
Come back to the heart, the heart of Christmas
Live while you can, cherish the moment
The ones that you love, make sure they know it
Don’t miss it, the heart of Christmas

In the shadow of a steeple
In a star that lights the way
You will find Him in a manger
The heart of Christmas has a name

I’m gonna make a wish this Christmas
I’m gonna say a little prayer

Wherever you are, no matter how far
Come back to the heart, the heart of Christmas
Live while you can and cherish the moment
The ones that you love, make sure they know it

Wherever you are, no matter how far
Come back to the heart, the heart of Christmas
Live while you can, cherish the moment
The ones that you love, make sure they know it
Don’t miss it, the heart of Christmas

with all this being said...take inventory of what might be impeding you from focusing on the ATTENTION TO DETAIL He has for you. make sure you have ATTENTION TO DETAIL with Him. make sure you are giving those special people in your life ATTENTION TO DETAIL. life in all it's entirity is fragile, delicate & oh so very quick to fade away with the NOISE, if you allow it.

march FORWARD knowing & certain that He lives within YOU. YOU are the reflection of His love & it is through YOU that LOVE, PEACE & JOY shall reign in the CHRISTmas spirit. may His ATTENTION TO DETAIL this CHRISTmas find it's way to YOU & may YOU keep giving it forward.
